Preheating the oven is a crucial first step in baking Cinnamon Roll Monkey Bread, as it ensures even baking throughout the dish. When you place your monkey bread in a preheated oven, the outside of the dough begins to set and rise immediately, creating that perfect crispy exterior while maintaining a soft and gooey interior. This step not only helps with baking consistency but also enhances the flavors, allowing those cinnamon and sugar notes to meld beautifully. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to get started.

Ingredients

3 cans (12.4 oz each) refrigerated cinnamon rolls (with icing)

1 cup granulated sugar

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

½ cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a bundt pan or a 9x13 inch baking dish with non-stick spray or butter.

Prepare the Cinnamon Rolls: Open the cans of cinnamon rolls and separate them. Cut each roll into quarters.

Mix the Sugar and Cinnamon: In a medium bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon until well combined.

Coat the Dough Pieces: In a large mixing bowl, toss the quartered cinnamon rolls in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until well coated. Ensure each piece is evenly distributed in the sugar. If using, mix in the chopped nuts here.

Layer in the Pan: Layer half of the coated cinnamon roll pieces at the bottom of the greased bundt pan. Drizzle half of the melted butter over this layer.

Add More Layers: Add the remaining cinnamon roll pieces on top, followed by a drizzle of the remaining melted butter.

Mix Brown Sugar and Vanilla: In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar and vanilla extract. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the top of the layered cinnamon rolls.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the dough has cooked through. The edges should be caramelized, and the center should be bubbly.

Cool and Glaze: Remove from the oven and allow to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Carefully invert the pan onto a serving plate. Drizzle the icing from the cans of cinnamon rolls over the top while warm.

Serve: Dust with powdered sugar before serving. Pull apart and enjoy the gooey, cinnamon-sugar goodness!
