Ingredients

4 medium apples, skin removed and cored, thinly sliced

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1/2 tsp ground nutmeg

1 tbsp fresh lemon juice

1 cup rolled old-fashioned oats

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted

1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Pinch of salt

Instructions

Begin by warming a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced apples to the skillet.

In a separate bowl, combine the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice until well blended. Pour this blend over the apples and stir gently to ensure they are evenly coated.

Sauté the apples in the skillet for approximately 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they start to soften and the mixture starts bubbling.

While the apples are cooking, make the crisp topping. In another bowl, mix together the oats, flour, melted butter, chopped nuts (if desired), and a pinch of salt. Stir until the mixture is fully combined and crumbly.

After the apples have softened, evenly distribute the oat topping over the apples in the skillet.

Lower the heat to low, cover the skillet with a lid, and let it cook for an additional 10-15 minutes until the topping turns golden and the apples are tender.

Take it off the heat and allow it to cool for a few minutes before serving warm, possibly topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
